Aquinas Magazine Front Cover & Evaluation.

For my preliminary task i was asked to produce a front cover and contents page for a new college magazine. On my magazines front cover i think i was successful for the following reasons; I positioned all of the secondary images on and around the main cover image in an effective way by ensuring they compliment the magazines house style and make the neutral background look more eye catching. I carefully selected a font for the covers masthead that i think looks professional for a college magazine and it is also similar to the font of the original Aquinas logo. I made sure i added each and every detail to my magazines cover such as its issue number, price and bar code to make it look as professional as possible. Not to mention i reflected the information i had gathered from my questionnaire research on my cover for example with the promotion/advertisement and the Top shop competition. I further used a pull quote from one of the magazines articles to gain my target audiences interest. However when creating the front cover for my music magazine i will take into consideration that it will look more effective if i take more time when editing my main cover image on Photoshop as the main cover image on my Aquinas magazine has rough edges in some areas. I will also ensure next time that using my audience research for ideas i will use more secondary images on my music magazines front cover so that the main cover image doesn't look too neutral and i will further consider capturing less background in my main cover image or using a interesting background instead if necessary.

Photo's for Music Magazine with explanations.

This photo will be appropriate for my magazine as it can be used a secondary image for my double page spread on Ed Sheeran. It also helps to advertise gigs/concerts which could then be discussed in the article.
Ed sheeran is going to be the featured artist on my double page spread as his music fits into the acoustic sub genre of my magazine. Therefore this image will be effective as a secondary image for the article showing Ed Sheeran in concert. The lighting in this photo helps to capture the artist and focuses on the vocal point of the image.

I may use this image for the double page spread in my magazine as i think it could potentially work effectively as a secondary image as it shows the artist preforming which would be appropriate for the article. However the shot isn't a close up so it may not appear as clear as some of my other images of Ed Sheeran, although the artist name on the set background looks good.
This image of Ed Sheeran could also be used as a    secondary image on my double page spread of the artist as it captures the artist in concert and engaging the crowd with his actions, which could interest my target audience as they may want to see him live.

This signed album of Ed sheeran could be used either on my magazines front cover as a promotion or in my double page spread article on Ed Sheeran telling the reader about signings the artist is currently doing in various locations.
I may use this this image somewhere in my music magazine, perhaps on the front cover or contents page to show the band Mayday Parade and write an advertisement on meet and greet tickets that the band are currently selling. This advertisement could be positioned along side the image and further promote the bands new album 'monsters in the closet.'
I may consider using this image on the front cover of my magazine or on the contents page as a secondary image once it has been cropped. This image is effective as it supports the genre and sub genre of my magazine 'Acoustic/Unplugged Rock.' Not to mention the lighting in the photo looks proffessional and captures the band well whilst they're preforming an acoustic set at the Royal Nothern College Of Music in Manchester.

I think this image may feature somewhere in my magazine as a secondary image as it compliments the music genre of my magazine and is an example of a traditional acoustic instrument.
I am going to consider using this image of Ed Sheeran either on my front cover or contents page as a secondary image to advertise the double page spread on the artist inside the magazine, or as one of the main images on my double page spread. However using this image as the main image on my article will depend on whether the quality of it is good enough once resizes and/or edited.

I may use this image of Danny the lead singer of the band the script on my contents page or front cover as a secondary image. The image supports the 'Acoustic' sub genre of my magazine with the artist playing an acoustic slowed down version of a song in the image.

As an alternative i may feature this image somewhere in my magazine instead of the one above depending on which i think he lighting is the most effective in, as i want the image to be of a high quality and capture the mood of my magazine's genre.
I may use this image as a secondary image on either my magazines front cover or contents page to advertise one of the bands that will feature in my magazine. I could also use this image to promote their new tour as this image is from their previous tour with their second album.

Aquinas Contents Page and Evaluation.

For my preliminary task i was asked to produce a front cover and contents page for a new college magazine. On my contents page I believe i was successful for the following reasons; I kept a consistent house style with both my front cover and my contents page (black, white & red) which suit the college genre of my magazine and link to the Aquinas Logo, i used appropriate images to reflect what the articles within the magazine will feature and i further chose fonts that compliment each other and clearly suit my magazines house style. To give the reader an insight into what each article is about i put a caption below each article's heading and placing page numbers on the images on my contents page makes it clear to my target audience what they're reading, avoiding confusion and further entices them to the article. However there are some minor errors with my contents page which i will avoid doing in my Music magazine for example; the positioning of the different writing isn't consistently in line with each other and the font size of the numbering also isn't consistent, so to ensure it my future contents page looks professional i will take more time to arrange the writing on the page and size it correctly. From researching different magazines i have now realised that the numbering on magazines contents pages aren't usually in chronological order and instead are often numbered randomly or in ascending even numbers. Not to mention next time i will make sure the images used blend in with the writing on my contents page to ensure it looks original.
