Music Magazine Proposal.

Proposal.

The name of my magazine is Unplugged I will present this masthead in a font that suits my house style and is a denotation of the name. The Genre of my magazine is alternative rock and the sub-genre is acoustic rock, it will combine the styles and artists that Kerrang and Acoustic magazine contain. I want to showcase through my various main and secondary images the emotions the genre and sub-genre portray. Acoustic/unplugged gigs that Rock and Alternative artists do will be the main features in my magazine and I will ensure the house style is well suited to its genre and sub-genre. My magazines target audience is aimed at 14-20 year olds both male and female. My ideal reader mood board further reflects the interests of my target audience such as; going to festivals particularly Download fest and Leeds, wearing Dr Martens, vans and converse and they would be typically known to have tattoo’s and piercings. My target audience would also typically have an interest in books mainly fantasy or gothic tales that complement the acoustic rock genre of my magazine and their individuality and unique style will further reflect the unique unplugged music. The majority of teenagers have a keen interest in social networking sites so I will include a website link in my magazine so it can be accessed online. I will further use social networking sites as an interaction for some of my magazines competitions. I want to ensure that my magazine is as eye catching as possible with a clear house style running through it, and a range of secondary images on the cover that don’t leave the main cover image looking too neutral. I hope it will be a visual representation of the type of people my target audience are, by reflecting the type of gigs/festivals they would attend and the type of style they have.

My magazines unique selling point will be various competitions with prizes that are well suited to my target audience’s interests and some of the artists/bands that will feature in the magazine. For example a chance to win meet and greet tickets to one of the featured artists/bands gigs. The cost of my magazine will be approximately £3 due to its big content and design. There are various features I am considering using such as; a double page spread on Ed Sheeran, festival news, the latest acoustic gigs and upcoming ones, band photo shoots, new albums etc. I will distribute my magazine on print as well as online on its own website and it will be advertised on the radio to promote each new weekly issue. The publisher of Acoustic Magazine (which reflects the genre/sub-genre of my magazine) is ‘Blaze publishing’ therefore either they or the publisher of Kerrang ‘Bauer Media Group’ will publish my magazine; i will make this decision whilst I’m in the process of constructing my magazine.

Masthead Fonts.

I came to the decision of using this font for the mast head of my music magazines cover as it compliments the house style of my magazine and it also compares to the font the 'fender' logo has therefore this reflects the idea of an 'unplugged' guitar. I think this font stands out but is still elegant and unique.

Audience Research For My Music Magazine 4

Audience Research For Music Magazine 3

Aquinas Magazine Front Cover & Evaluation.

For my preliminary task i was asked to produce a front cover and contents page for a new college magazine. On my magazines front cover i think i was successful for the following reasons; I positioned all of the secondary images on and around the main cover image in an effective way by ensuring they compliment the magazines house style and make the neutral background look more eye catching. I carefully selected a font for the covers masthead that i think looks professional for a college magazine and it is also similar to the font of the original Aquinas logo. I made sure i added each and every detail to my magazines cover such as its issue number, price and bar code to make it look as professional as possible. Not to mention i reflected the information i had gathered from my questionnaire research on my cover for example with the promotion/advertisement and the Top shop competition. I further used a pull quote from one of the magazines articles to gain my target audiences interest. However when creating the front cover for my music magazine i will take into consideration that it will look more effective if i take more time when editing my main cover image on Photoshop as the main cover image on my Aquinas magazine has rough edges in some areas. I will also ensure next time that using my audience research for ideas i will use more secondary images on my music magazines front cover so that the main cover image doesn't look too neutral and i will further consider capturing less background in my main cover image or using a interesting background instead if necessary.
